NDC BAHAMAS
About The National Dance Company of The Bahamas
The NDCB is a multi-faceted Bahamian dance company with strong idiosyncratic influences of Europe and Africa. As a Theatre Company, its repertoire reflects the diverse culture of the Bahamas and the Caribbean.
The National Dance Company of The Bahamas (NDCB) was established in 1992 as an initiative of The Bahamas Government to continue to promote the dance arts. The original idea was conceived much earlier by the late E. Clement Bethel after the establishment of the National Dance School in 1976. Mr Bethel, the first director of culture of The Bahamas, envisioned a Bahamian dance company that would function as an essential part of The National Dance School, which would serve as a feeder school to facilitate its ongoing development. As the official national entity for dance in The Bahamas, the NDCB was to serve as a lasting tribute to the Bahamian people as a means of Bahamian cultural expression.
The NDCB is now in its 28th year under the direction of
Mr. Robert Bain II, who has witnessed the many transitions of the company over the years. The company has worked with local and international choreographers beginning with Mrs. Cleo Parker- Robinson who was brought to the Bahamas by the American Embassy, Nassau in 1991 to assist with its establishment. The company has also worked and studied with, noted teachers and choreographers such as: Troy Powell, Artistic Director of Ailey 2, Patsy Ricketts former member of the National Theater Company of Jamaica, Dr. Mel Tomilinson renowned dancer, teacher and choreographer, Charmaine Hunter of The Dance Theatre of Harlem, Kenny Burke of The Scottish Ballet, the late Alex Zybine, Shawn Toussaint, Patrick Johnson and Mydi Williams, all of whom have contributed to the development of the company’s repertoire and training.
The Company has toured the United States, Europe and the Caribbean.

In celebration of its 33rd anniversary, The National Dance Company of The Bahamas presented
